Spectre is an American spy film directed by Sam Mendes. It stars Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes and Naomie Harris. The story centers on James Bond's attempt to stop an international terrorist named Ernst Stavro Blofeld from giving nuclear weapons to the Islamic State of Iran and Hezbollah with the help of a CIA agent, with whom Bond works closely in order to do so. The title "Spectre" was first used by Ian Fleming for a short story published in 1962. It was used for the film's main theme, and pays homage to Fleming's James Bond novels. The film's script is written by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, and it is directed by Mendes. The story begins immediately after the events of "Skyfall". Craig and Mendes wanted to go one step further than "Skyfall" in making the 24th film a darker, grittier film that would explore the character's emotions as well as his inner demons. They also wanted to give Craig an opportunity to explore the character's past. Spectre opened the 67th Venice Film Festival on August 31, 2015. It was released in the United Kingdom on October 26, 2015 and in the United States on November 6, 2015. The film received positive reviews from critics; it has grossed over $880 million worldwide. On October 1, 2013, "Variety" reported that Daniel Craig would return as James Bond for "Spectre", his fourth Bond film. Later that month Eon Productions confirmed Craig's return to play James Bond. On June 5, 2014 Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said that Spectre would be released in November 2015. The film's title was announced on August 17, 2014. On October 20, 2014, MGM announced that Spectre would be released in the United Kingdom on October 28, 2015 and in the United States on November 6, 2015. This is the first time that "Spectre" is being released in two opposite countries at once. On January 12, 2015 it was announced that Christoph Waltz had joined the film to play Ernst Stavro Blofeld. On July 10, 2015 Daniel Craig confirmed his return to play James Bond for the last time. On July 24, 2015 it was confirmed that two unannounced actors would also appear in "Spectre", one of whom would be Ralph Fiennes as M. Mendes also confirmed that filming will commence on December 8, 2015. Spectre is the last occasion where the screenplay credit was shared by multiple writers. It is also the first occasion where a screenwriter was credited for writing scenes for the film without being credited for writing its screenplay. Production companies announced that principal photography has commenced at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom on December 8, 2015. A video taken at Pinewood Studios (which began with an aerial shot of Pinewood's 007 Stage) was released on January 18, 2016 to show the beginning of filming and introduced director Sam Mendes and lead actor Daniel Craig. cfa1e77820
